Tule Lake NWR Magic Map
This interface allows you turn off and on different layers to see the historic and present state of Tule Lake. It requires Flash.
This gives you a new look at Tule Lake, one of the most amazing wetlands in the world before it was drained around 1915. Click the graphic or the link to launch the application. It will launch in a new pop-up window and may take a minute to load.
Despite its seeming simplicity, it was very complicated to make the imagery for this. I combined different maps and graphics as Google Earth overlays, and then used FLAniS (an application written by Tom Whittaker that is used in dynamic weather reporting) to create the clickable layers. Housing data was obtained through the website Zillow. Thanks to this brilliant program, getting it all into the Flash interface was the easy part.
If you haven't seem them already, be sure to see the before and after graphics, which use this same program to create cross-fading before and after graphics of not just Tule Lake, but the entire Klamath Basin and the National Wildlife Refuges.
